Job Description
• Responsible for providing assistance in leading and managing the services and activities of the assigned nursing units by assuming a 24-hour accountability including planning, organizing and directing all internal support functions. Ensure that the everyday activities related to the assigned nursing units are run smoothly by setting parameters to judge how efficiently and effectively the unit is operating. Report progress to immediate superior.
• Provide direct patient care utilizing the nursing process. Demonstrate knowledge and clinical assessment skills. Complete assigned responsibilities and ensure patient care activities are within established hospital, divisional and unit specific guidelines, policies and procedures, standards protocols, etc. Document nursing interactions on the patients’ clinical record.
• Supervise care provided by maintaining high visibility (90% clinical presence) to patients/families and staff in the clinical area(s).
• Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills when interacting with patients/families, other health care team members and staff of other departments.
•Assist and support staff in the development of their roles on the nursing related units. Maintain all records pertaining to the operation of the area of assignment/specialty and generate reports as required. Use research/current literature in the provision/supervision of evidence-based care.
• Monitor effectiveness of standards of patient care and nursing policies and procedures and appropriately refer deviations. Participate actively in Nursing and/or hospital committees and work groups.
• Participate in teaching and mentoring of Nursing, Medical and Paramedical students, Interns and Residents. Work with members of the health care team in activities designed to improve patient care outcomes.
• Assist in developing and implementing quality management program for the area of assignment/specialty. Advocate for excellence in patient care and for patient rights. Conduct and assess patient/family educational needs, readiness and discharge planning needs utilizing appropriate resources.
• Participate in managing the activities and performance of staff and provide feedback. Monitor workload, develop work schedules; identify opportunities for improvement. Implement productivity standards; resolve operations problems; participate in unit orientation for new employees; facilitate training.
• Ensure a full compliance with hospital infection control, safety protocols and quality standards. Practice within the scope of hospital policy and accepted standards.
• Serve as a professional role model, teacher and resource person. Demonstrate respect, compassion and cultural sensitivity to patients/families, other hospital employees, students and faculty.
• Deputize and assume responsibilities of the Nursing Supervisor, as and if required. Participate in the development and administration of the department budget.

Work Experience: Minimum of 8 (eight) years current clinical nursing experience following licensure/ registration in the country of origin, 3 (three) years of which in specific field/area and in comparable management position – Essential
