Principle Duties:
1. To participate in patient care for patients admitted to the hospital under the Neonatal Intensive Care Department. He/She may also be required to cover the day-to-day duties of the team's Senior Resident/Staff Physician/Fellow when their coverage is deficient. This includes covering the Labor & Delivery (L&D) Suite and Postnatal Wards.
2. To participate in on-call coverage for the various units under the Neonatal Intensive Care Department (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Intermediate Care Nursery, Special Care Baby Unit) in accordance with the rules and regulations of the department, accepting the inconveniences associated with patients' needs during on-call coverage and discussion patient management with the Neonatology Consultant or Associate Consultant on-duty.
3. To provide consultant services to other Departments within the organization during the regular work and oncall hours according to the Department's Policies and Procedures and discuss the management with Neonatology Consultant or Associate Consultant on-duty.
4. Attend newborn deliveries as well as Neonatal emergencies.
5. He/she should (under supervision of the Neonatology Consultant on-duty):
Assess newborns in the Mother Baby Unit at the request of the attending Neonatologist.
Assess and make treatment plans for patients admitted to the Units within the Neonatal Intensive Care Department.
Write orders for Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN).
Write admission, progress, discharge notes and any other documentation related to the patients he/she has cared for.
Show competency in and perform all neonatal emergency procedures.
6. To actively participate in the Quality improvement programs of the Neonatal Intensive Care Department.
7. To provide close supervision of the clinical performance of subordinates and to act as a role model.
8. To take full responsibilities of the Department's and hospital's administrative tasks that are assigned. This may include department or hospital standing and ad-hoc committees or representation of the Department on committees and/or activities outside the hospital.
9. To participate in scientific research and contribute to the department's educational activities on postgraduate training programs as per the Department's Policies and Procedures.
10. To regularly participate in educational activities in order to acquire new skills and knowledge and to support career advancements.
I l. To advocate for the health needs and well-being of children and their families.
12. To adhere to all rules and regulations of the Neonatal Intensive Care Department and the organization. Assistant Consultants are expected to familiarize themselves and comply with both the APPs and DPPs.
13. To perform other relevant duties and charges as directed by the Chairman of Neonatal Intensive Care Department.
14. To comply with all professional and ethical standards and express adherence to the Medical Staff By-Laws of the organization
Education: • MBBS or equivalent
• Saudi Board of Pediatrics or Equivalent
Work Experience: Minimum of one (l) year Neonatology experience in a Level-3 Unit.
Life Support Training: Training and (re)certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) every 2 years
