MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clinically assess the patients’ nutritional status/nutrition education needs through interviews with the patient and/or family members (including obtaining and evaluating diet history as appropriate), and review of medical records, laboratory values, food-drug interaction and other relevant information.
- Develop and implement nutritional care plan; monitor and follow up NPO status and patient tolerance to modified diets or supplements and recommend modifications of diet orders as appropriate (diet, supplements, enteral and parenteral nutrition), and re-assess the patient’s nutritional status on regular intervals.
- Recommend modifications of nutritional intake/orders to Health-Care professional as appropriate (diet, supplements, tube-feedings and parenteral nutrition).
- Provide diet and nutrition counseling to patients and family members, and/or others as appropriate.
- Communicate nutrition care plans to medical and nursing staff. Document all aspects of nutritional care in a timely fashion following established protocols and standard of care
- Develop, plan, and conduct nutritional educational sessions (e.g. diabetes, pregnancy, lactation, infant feeding, etc.) for patients and/or family members.
- Assist the Chief of Clinical Nutrition in developing and implementing lesson plans and teaching nutrition sessions to dietetic interns, patients and the community, as appropriate.
- Participate in developing and implementing written teaching tools and educational materials for patient education as required.
- Assist with implementation and evaluation of protocols and procedures to ensure quality nutritional care for inpatients and outpatients.
- Attend relevant committees requiring participation of Clinical Nutrition as assigned. Participate in multi-disciplinary patient rounds as required.
- Participate in research studies related to Clinical Nutrition performed in the Hospital as required.
- Participate in the Dietetic Internship Program and the Saudi Career Development Program (SCDP) by providing practical training activities and assignments. Maintain responsibility for trainee evaluation.
- Secure workload as back up of the absent colleagues.
- Collect and maintain record of workload measurement data and clinical statistics on an ongoing basis.
- Participate in reviewing and updating the dietary manual as necessary.
