ASSISTANT CONSULTANT GERIATRIC MEDICINE

Principle Duties:

1. To provide high-standard care to geriatric patients and/or patients requiring physical medicine and rehabilitation under the supervision of a Consultant/Associate Consultant.
2. To provide inpatient care for geriatric patients and/or patients requiring physical medicine and rehabilitation admitted to the hospital under the name of a Consultant with whom he/she works.
3. To participate in the delivery of health care to geriatric patients and/or patients requiring physical medicine and rehabilitation in the ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a Consultant/ Associate Consultant.
4. To provide, under the direct supervision of the Consultant, a consultation services to other divisions within the Department of Medicine, and other departments within the hospital during the regular working and on-call hours.
5. To participate in the on-call coverage of the Division of Physical and Geriatric Medicine in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Division of Physical and Geriatric Medicine, the Department of Medicine, and the organization.
6. To provide close supervision of the clinical performance of staff physicians and physicians in training (interns, resident, and fellows).
7. To participate in scientific research, contribute into the Division of Physical and Geriatric Medicine and the Department of Medicine educational activities and post-graduate training programs, and to serve in committees as directed by the Head, Division of Physical and Geriatric Medicine, Chairman of the Department of Medicine or the Executive Management of the organization.
8. To perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions and procedures on the geriatric/elderly patients and/or patients requiring physical medicine and rehabilitation for which he/she is granted specific privileges based on his/her training, qualifications and experience according to specific privileging conditions approved by the Department of Medicine and the organization.
9. To optimally utilize resources, show continuous evidence of self-development and participate in Quality Improvement program of the Division of Physical and Geriatric Medicine and the Department of Medicine.
10. To adhere to all rules and regulations of the Division of Physical and Geriatric Medicine, Department of Medicine and the organization and to comply with all the APPs and IPPs.
11. To perform other relevant duties and tasks as directed by the Head, Division of Physical and Geriatric Medicine and the Chairman of the Department of Medicine.
12. To comply with all the professional and ethical standards and express adherence to the Medical Staff By-laws of the organization.
13. To show the expected respect, at all times, to patients, their families, colleagues, subordinates and all other members of the healthcare team.

Education:

• Graduation from a medical school recognized by NGHA. 
• Successful completion of a structured accredited Residency Training Program in Internal Medicine acceptable to the NGHA. 
• Certification by the appropriate Specialty Board approved by the Saudi Council of Health Specialties and acceptable to the NGHA. 

Work Experience:

Superior or above performance in areas of patient care and teaching/training activities (E).  Productivity in medical research merits strong consideration.  Publications in peer-reviewed journals are highly desirable (P).

English Language Skills: Level I (Skilled) (Essential)

Arabic Language Skills: Preferred 

Computer Skills: Level: Expert (Beneficial)
