Job Description
• Organize, prepare and check all Endoscopy rooms, endoscopes and accessories required according to schedule. Undertake pre-procedures patient preparation and transportation; positioning; and prepare necessary devices for procedures.
• Provide assistance to the physicians in taking biopsies, manipulating snare for cauterization of lesions/polyps; preparing with the specialized equipment used in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP); preparing banding equipment for esophageal varices; injecting sclerotherapy agent as instructed by the physicians.
• Assist critically ill patients (Intensive Care Unit-ICU/Emergency Room-ER) before, during and after emergency Endoscopy procedures. Prepare and move equipment to the appropriate unit. Assist physicians with emergency procedures.
• Ensure the decontamination and sterilization of equipment after the procedures. Comply with hospital infection control and safety protocols. Inspect all equipment for damage, wear and tear and functionality and coordinate to relevant departments to ensure maintenance and safe operation of equipment.
• Undertake check of supply consumables for the unit, orders and receive same, collaborate with Materials Management for supplies follow-up/issues. Participate in Quality Management program, improvement processes and activities.
• Responsible for maintaining adequate supplies and report deficiencies to the nurse in-charge. Liaise with other healthcare team members and departments to provide continuity of care and unit activities.
• Work with all health care team members in activities designed for the improvement of patient care outcomes. Assume responsibility for professional growth and participate in identifying areas of clinical knowledge that need further development. Act as a preceptor and/or resource for the new employees and trainees. Participate in teaching and monitoring of nursing, Medical and Paramedical students, Interns and Residents.
• Protect patient privacy and dignity at all times and maintain strict confidentiality in conformance to organizational policy of ethics. Advocate for patient/family rights at all times. Participate in staff meetings for in-service and discussion of Endoscopy.
