MEDICAL CODER

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to the appropriate classification system for inpatient visits/encounters.
• Review appropriate healthcare provider documentation to determine principal diagnosis, co-morbidities and complications, secondary conditions and surgical procedures.
• Utilize technical coding principals and Australian Refined Diagnosis Related Group (AR-DRG) reimbursement expertise to assign appropriate ICD-10- AM/ACHI/ACS diagnoses and procedures.
• Extract required information from documentation and enter into encoder and abstracting system.
• Review documentation to verify and, when necessary, correct the patient disposition upon discharge.
• Abide by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the Australian Health Information Management Association (HIMAA) and adhere to official Australian Coding Standards.
• Provide reports on a regular basis and as directed by the immediate supervisor of the operations and progress the Data Management processes within the assigned service area.
• Perform other job-related duties.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Diploma Degree in Health Information Management or related discipline from an accredited institution – Essential

Medical Terminology Course – Essential

Completed HIMAA, ICD-10- AM/ACHI/ACS – Introductory Course – Essential

Registration with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties – Essential

Work Experience:

Minimum of 2 (two) years position related experience in a Hospital Medical Record Department – Essential

Competencies:

Demonstrated abilities in International Classification of Diseases Clinical Modification, 9th Revision (ICD-9-CM) coding and abstracting – Preferred

Language and Computer Skills:

English Language: Level – I – Essential

Computer: Level – II – Essential
